SOCIB and MarRISK workshop
Emma Reyes from SOCIB participated remotely in a two-day workshop from the MarRISK project held in La Cidade da Cultura from Santiago de Compostela (Spain) on the 19th-20th of October 2020.
The first day, presentations provided an overview of the current status and future prospects of six Spanish and Portuguese Coastal Ocean Observing Systems -COOS- (SOCIB, RAIA, OCASO, PLOCAN, EUSKOOS and OOM). This session demonstrated that all these observing systems share a common mission, and similar scientific priorities, societal goals and challenges, despite fundamental differences in their financial support, resources, maturity level and governance structures (for additional information, see Annex).

During the second day, panelists presented the main outcomes of the MarRISK project, aimed at evaluating the most relevant coastal risks in Galicia and Portugal in terms of climate change scenarios in order to improve the resilience. The most relevant outcomes are:
- The generation and implementation of a set of 12 measurable environmental indicators.
- The creation of regional biogeochemical change scenarios for 2055.
- The analysis climate change impacts on aquaculture, marine and river ecosystems, harmful algae blooms occurrence, coastline erosion and retreat, etc
- The development of tailored services to increase the resilience of the Galician and Portuguese coastlines.
- The stakeholder engagement activities: training workshops, outreach and awareness.
