The R/V SOCIB has available on board a TELEDYNE 150 KHz ADCP (acoustic current Doppler profiler). This instrument is capable of providing streams data up to 350 meters depth.
As an added bonus, the ship has installed a positioning GPS 3D ASHTEC ADU 800 system. This device gives very accurate information about its position and behavior: pitch, rool and heading. Thus the ADCP current profiler is able to correct its data with the highly accurate information from the 3D GPS.
In fact, the R/V SOCIB is one of the few boats (of this size) in the world capable of providing such precise current data.

The SIMRAD scientific probe installed on the catamaran provides information from the sea bottom to a depth of 3,000 meters.

This three antenna Ashtec 3D GPS 800 ADU system installed on the R/V SOCIB provides information on both the vessel's position and its behavior (heading, pitch and roll) with high accuracy. The data from this system can be used by other instruments (such as ADCP the profiler) to make corrections on its raw data to provide more accurate information.
