Medsea Checkpoint project -DG Mare- sets new standards for data review, availability and fitness for purpose in the Mediterranean.

SOCIB, from 2013 to 2017, has participated in the EMODnet Medsea Check Point project of DG Mare, EU. The aim of the project was to make a diagnosis of the available and accessible data of the Mediterranean basin, concerning different oceanographic aspects (i.e. fisheries, temperature trends, sea level rise, blue economy, etc.).

SOCIB has participated leading the WP in "Climate and Coastal Protection" as well as in other activities related to literature review, methodological design of data evaluation, dissemination of results, etc. The project ended last July and the results are public since end of August and they can be cited with its corresponding DOI. The method and approach developed by Medsea Check Point has been adopted by other groups working in the Atlantic basin, the Black Sea and the Arctic.
